White Forest by
Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk

Phase One ambassador Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk is famous for her dark and mysterious photography that almost look like paintings. Originally trained as a goldsmith, Gemmy was drawn to another career path, pursuing her artistic vision that allow her to express emotions and deeper meanings. For this extraordinary project, Gemmy fabricated a replica forest set from scratch inside the MOYA museum located in south Netherlands. Inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood folk tale, the final images captivate the viewer and allow them to dive into a mystique white forest.

Only with Gemmy you will see a horse maneuvering through a museum.

Watch the video below to see how the whole project turned out.

Gemmy is basically married to her Schneider Kreuznach 45mm f/3.5 Blue Ring lens. This wide-angle camera allows her to capture much of her sets while also getting edge-to-edge sharpness and nearly distortion free results.

Phase One ProfotoAIR Tool

The Phase One ambassador works mainly with studio photography and quickly understood that her detail loaded images won’t appear the right way if they aren’t shot with a powerful camera kit. The Phase One XF camera system gives her that level of image quality able to capture her Rembrandt style images. For her elaborate set-buildings, she relies on a comprehensive lighting technique, in this case using eight ProfotoAir lights. Being able to control directly through the individual lights through her XF camera saves Gemmy a lot of time and allows her to focus solely on finding the right composition.
