Diamond Beach, Jokulsarlon, Iceland

“How cold is the water in Iceland during the winter?

VERY. Very, very, very cold.

Which is something I learned about 3 seconds before I clicked the button to capture this image of one of the baby icebergs washed up on Iceland’s Diamond Beach, at the mouth of Jokulsarlon.

On the basis of “if you’re already wet, you may as well get the shot” – I clicked just in time to capture this block before it rolled back out to sea, then running back to the car to switch back into dry clothes and shoes.”

“Standing for thousands of years, deep within the English countryside just outside of Amesbury, Wiltshire – this ancient circle of Neolithic stones is recognised by historians and tourists from all around the world.

With special “inner circle” access to the stone ring at sunrise, the storms of the night before had suggested I’d be set for disappointment. As with all things photographic, if you plan for the worst (with potential wet weather gear being worn by me as well as the security guards!) you can often be pleasantly surprised as the colour erupted into the sky above.”

“The Central Business District of Moscow is a skyline that’s evolving by the day. The amazing architecture of the new series of skyscrapers was just calling out to be captured, in the hope of a spectacular sunset as a backdrop.

While the sky wasn’t quite as “on fire” as I’d normally be looking for, the shapes and lighting around the buildings on the waterfront really didn’t disappoint. As a relatively calm day, I was originally worried by the lack of movement in the sky – with a 3.5 minute exposure (with some help from a couple of ND filters), however, there was just enough to make it come to life!”
